It can, that’s the scary part.

Because Christopher Hitchens and Kim Jong-Il have both died this week, I give you: Christopher Hitchens, and his thoughts on North Korea.

For those who know little about North Korea or Kim Jong Now Dead, this is a very good summary.

25 Ridiculous Reactions To #GodIsNotGreat

atheistme:

These half-wits have done nothing but prove Hitchen’s point. I think it’s pretty safe to assume your God isn’t great when your threatening murder over a trending twitter topic.

I liked this one best

God Sent Christopher Hitchens to Hell Because He Loved Him

Predictably, the death of Christopher Hitchens has resulted in some truly foul responses from certain quarters of the religion of love that is Christianity. Responses that only underline the sheer contrast between the courageous, erudite, loyal, generous and humane colossus that was Hitch, and the ignorant, fearful, hate-filled, shriveled ugliness of people whose brand of religion has poisoned their natural compassion and taught them to look down on a man who was their superior in every conceivable way.

This video is one of the best/worst examples. Feel free to link to others in the Comments below. Comments such as these illustrate perfectly why Hitch so raged against the demeaning and dehumanizing effects of religion, and why it is so important for all of us to work tirelessly to keep up his good work now he’s gone.

And if anyone wants to post on this thread saying, ‘Oh, but these people aren’t true Christians and they’ve misunderstood what Christianity’s all about’ - please don’t bother. It’s them you need to tell, not us.

The logic in his argumentation is so dense. So your God is a loving God, and that is why Christopher Hitchens is in hell, because he would hate being in heaven as he always hated God. What do you think atheism is? It is not hate of God. Do you hate the tooth fairy? Do you hate the pink unicorn, the spaghetti monster? No, because you don’t believe in their existence.

What atheists hate is not God, it is that people believe in a non-existent authority figure and what that does to the world, as Mr. Fischer here is an excellent example of. They hate that people cling to something inherently ignorant and hateful, something completely fictional, yet treated as fact. They hate that religious people like Bryan Fischer seek what confirms their ideas and discount what doesn’t, that they need to rationalize the bad things their allegedly good God is said to do into an act of love by attributing it to a “good” cause. Because of course atheists would hate being in a nice place they were convinced didn’t exist. Of course they would prefer burning in hell forever.

“[Mother Teresa] was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction”

Christopher Hitchens (via atheismfuckyeah)

I would recommend reading this article on the issue.

Christopher Hitchens dying is a consequence of unbelief, but when millions of Christians die, God works in mysterious ways?

What about the fact that the number of atheists stricken by sickness and death is not higher than the Christian number? For instance, why did John Paul II suffer from Parkinson’s disease, arthritis and laryngitis and have to die such a painful death?
