More leading universities are offering free online courses through the fast-growing education platform Coursera.

Mountain View, Calif.-based Coursera said Wednesday that 17 more domestic and international universities have joined the online network.

The new additions bring to 33 the number of institutions offering courses through Coursera, one of several new companies offering free cyber classes from elite universities. Coursera now offers more than 200 courses open to anyone with an Internet connection.

Wednesday’s announcement underscores the rapid expansion of so-called MOOCs, or massive open online courses, which are reshaping the higher education landscape.

The new Coursera partners include Brown, Columbia, Emory, Vanderbilt and Wesleyan universities, as well as Hebrew University of Jerusalem, University of British Columbia, University of London and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
